Au (close)

Description:

It is used to move around / avoid / confuse the opponent /start a new move/-mostly used in close games in order to protect the body.

Instructions:

  1. Bring your feet to parallel position
  2. Place your one hand to the floor
  3. Lift your body and place both hands to the floor
  4. Bring your foot near your chest to protect your body
  5. Step with one leg following the other and stand up
  6. Return to ginga position

Important!

Look the opponent when you execute the cartwheel

Negativa

Description:

It is used as defense to avoid a kick, as a sweep of the opponent and a move in order to continue your flow.

 

Instructions:

  1. Go low
  2. Extend one leg  – keep it a bit bent
  3. Rest on the other’s leg heel and place other’s side hand on the floor

Important!

Don’t rest on your whole sole, you won’t be able to stand up quickly.
Keep the extended leg bent in order to increase speed.
Protect your face with your hand.

 

Ginga

Description:

Ginga is the fundamental move of capoeira.

It prepares the capoerista for doing any other movement -offensive, defensive- / the player moves around constantly in order to confuse or avoid the opponent, keeps the flow and moves according to the berimbau and the rhythm played at the specific moment.

 

Instructions:

  1. Start with legs in parallel position
  2. Place one leg back and straight while having the opposite side’s hand in front of your face for protection. The other leg will be bent forward and the other hand open at the side
  3. Go back to parallel position
  4. Repeat the move but in the opposite position

 

 

 

Au

Description:

It is used to move around / avoid / confuse the opponent /start a new move. It is the equivalent cartwheel in gymnastics , but remaining distinct as we face all the time the opponent rather than the floor.

Instructions:

  1. Bring your feet to parallel position
  2. Place your one hand to the floor
  3. Lift your body and place both hands to the floor
  4. Open and keep straight both legs
  5. Step with one leg following the other and stand up
  6. Return to ginga position

Important!

Look the opponent when you execute the cartwheel.
